POE Scholar attends Netroots Nation through her Summer Internship
July 29, 2019
POE Mid-Atlantic student, Marian Almanza, who is interning at Planned Parenthood in Washington, D.C. this summer, was thrilled to be able to attend Netroots Nation in mid-July in Philadelphia. Marian is a senior at George Mason University studying Government with a minor in Legal Studies in the Schar School of Policy and Government. After attending the conference she emailed me this summary of her experience:
"'Netroots Nation was an amazing experience! Progressive activists, organizers, politicians, and scholars from all over the United States converged at Netroots to share experiences, knowledge, and resources. I watched panels such as “what it takes: what 2020 candidates can learn about local struggles to end mass incarceration” and “Making Herstory: The Women who are Shifting the Balance of Power in Washington” with Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rep. Deb Haaland, Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Rep. Barbara Lee. Over 3,000 people from all over the country were in attendance at Netroots Nation from hundreds of different organizations and non-profits such as Families Belong Together, Color of Change, Public Citizen, and so many more. I’m glad I got a chance to experience this through my internship at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “
